This is an alpha release. Core functionality works, but you may encounter bugs, incomplete features, and breaking changes between versions. Your data is safe — manuscripts are standard files on your machine.

Installer

The recommended way to install Writer Studio. Creates a Start menu shortcut and can be uninstalled from Settings.

Installation

Download the .exe installer
Run the installer and follow the prompts
Launch Writer Studio from the Start menu

Portable

A standalone version that runs from any folder. No installation required — useful for USB drives or restricted systems.

Usage

Download the .zip archive
Extract to any folder (e.g. C:\WriterStudio)
Run writer-studio.exe

SmartScreen Warning

Windows SmartScreen may show a warning because the app is from an unrecognized publisher. This is expected for new software without an Extended Validation certificate.

To proceed

Click More info in the SmartScreen dialog
Click Run anyway

You only need to do this once per version. You can verify the download using the SHA-256 checksum on the releases page.

System Requirements

Windows 10 or later (64-bit)
~200 MB disk space
WebView2 runtime (included in Windows 10 21H2+ and Windows 11)

Uninstall

Installer version

Open Settings → Apps → Installed apps
Find Writer Studio and click Uninstall

Portable version

Delete the folder where you extracted the archive

Project files remain in their original locations — they are standard files you can read without this software.
