Novel writing software

A whole novel is too much to keep in your head.

Write scene by scene, see how the book fits together, and keep character and location notes close to the manuscript. Everything stays in one project on your computer.

Stored on your computer · no account needed to write · macOS, Windows, Linux

Writer Studio is still in alpha. Expect bugs and changes to the project format, and keep an external backup of any important manuscript.

Outline on the left, scene in the center, Book Wiki on the right.

When one file is no longer enough

The draft is in one file. Everything else is somewhere else.

Character notes are in one app, scene order in a spreadsheet, and revision notes wherever you last left them. Writer Studio keeps them close to the manuscript.

The writing workflow

Write scene by scene. Keep the whole book in view.

The scene stays at the center; the outline, Book Wiki, and revision notes stay close to the prose.

01

Start with scenes

A scene is the only required level. Add chapters or parts when they help, then reorder the manuscript without rebuilding it.

02

Keep story details close

The Book Wiki keeps character and location notes together. Link them to scenes to see where a character appears or where a scene takes place.

03

Revise and export

Mark scenes that need another pass. Export the manuscript to DOCX, EPUB, or FB2 with chapters and scenes in the right order.

Outline and manuscript

No second copy to keep in sync.

Move a scene and the outline reflects the new order. Link a character to a scene and it appears in that character’s appearance list. No second spreadsheet to update.

Local by default

The book lives on your computer.

Write without signing in or moving the manuscript to the cloud. Copy the project, move it to another computer, or keep a backup wherever you choose.

  • Stored locally
  • No sign-in to write
  • Easy to copy and back up

If you want AI

It can suggest. You decide.

AI is off by default. If you enable it, it can find a scene, answer questions using the manuscript and Book Wiki, or suggest an edit. Proposed changes stay visible until you decide what to apply.
