Managed AI, right inside Writer Studio

Writer Studio is free, offline, and yours — the manuscript lives on your machine and the app never needs the cloud just to let you write. Authr AI is managed AI for the moments you want a second pair of hands: turn it on and a capable assistant works right inside the app, with no API key of your own and no separate provider signup. Authr AI is not sold on its own — it is the AI part of the Authr Plus subscription.

What Authr AI does

Authr AI is an assistant, not a ghostwriter. It can read your whole book, check a passage for problems, track a character or a plot thread, and answer questions about your story. Because it works through the app, it can also do what you can do — update metadata, add a character to the Book Wiki, jump you to the right scene — all through chat. It is off by default, and every change it proposes waits for your confirmation, so it never quietly rewrites your canon.

Why managed

Running your own AI means an API key, a provider account, and a bill you assemble yourself — worth it if you want to choose the provider or keep everything local. That path is free and stays free. Authr AI removes the plumbing: our key, one bill, and the AI is simply there inside Writer Studio. No keys to paste, no provider to sign up with, nothing to configure.

Authr AI is part of Authr Plus

Authr Plus is a subscription to our resources, not an AI plan. It includes:

• Authr AI — managed AI, with no key of your own.
• Active publications beyond the free one — we store every published book and serve it to your readers.
• Reader analytics — unique readers, completions, and per-chapter drop-off, not only a view counter.

Plans differ only by how much AI you get per month. Publications and analytics are identical on every plan: the cheapest one includes exactly as much of them as the most expensive.

What is always free

You never need a subscription to write a book and finish it:

• Everything local — writing, structure, the Book Wiki, search, export, local backups, and version history.
• AI on your own key, across as many books as you write.
• One active publication and its total view count.

If a subscription lapses, nothing local changes: the manuscript, local backups, and version history stay yours, one publication keeps serving readers, and AI on your own key works exactly as before.
