You buy our resources, never the app

Authr Plus is a subscription to our resources, not a licence for the app. Writer Studio is free, works offline, and stays that way: you can start a novel, finish it, and hand it to readers without paying us anything. A subscription enters the picture at exactly one point — when our servers start doing the work: our AI key, our storage, our machines serving your book to readers.

What you are actually paying for

The rule is short: whatever happens on your machine is free; what happens on ours is paid. Nothing is held back from the free app, and nothing expires. Authr Plus covers the cost we carry every month for as long as your book sits on our disks and readers keep opening it.

What is included

• Authr AI — managed AI: our key, one bill, no provider signup of your own.
• Active publications beyond the free one — we store every published book and serve it to your readers.
• Reader analytics — unique readers, completions, and per-chapter drop-off, not only a view counter.
• Cloud backup — included, from August.

Why the plans differ only by AI

A plan is a monthly AI budget, and nothing else. Publications, analytics, and cloud backup (included, from August) are the same on every plan by design: they cost us little per author, and they are the reason a subscription is worth keeping through a month when you barely touch AI. Splitting them across tiers would trade something you actually use for a rounding error of margin.

Free forever, subscription or not

• Everything local: writing, structure, the Book Wiki, search, export, local backups, and version history.
• AI on your own key — across as many books as you write, with no subscription.
• One active publication and its total view count — enough to put a draft in front of beta readers and see that it is being read.

Losing work is never for sale: local backups, Trash, and version history are free always, and no billing state can switch them off.

If a subscription lapses

A lapsed subscription can cost you reach. It can never cost you your book.

• Everything local — untouched. No local capability consults subscription state at all.
• Publications — one stays live: you choose which, and you are told before anything changes. The rest go dormant — they stop serving readers, but they are kept and come back intact when you resubscribe. Dormant is not deleted: only your own revoke removes a publication.
• Reader analytics — history is kept, not destroyed. The detailed view closes; the total view count stays.
• Cloud backup — once it lands in August: new uploads stop, backups already made stay downloadable and are never deleted for non-payment.
• AI on your own key — works exactly as before.

How to get it
