Privacy Policy

Effective date: 25 September 2026

authr.app is operated by PE Aleksandr Danilov, Republic of Armenia. Contact: [email protected].

What this policy covers

This policy covers the authr.app platform: the website, accounts, published books and their readers, support requests, and Authr AI. The Writer Studio desktop app has its own documents, bundled with the app. Use of the platform is also governed by our Terms of Service.

Data we process

For each kind of data: what we collect, why, and the legal basis.

Account. Email address, password (stored only as a hash), display name, preferred language, and the plan on your account. Why: to create your account, sign you in, and send account emails. Basis: our contract with you.

Sign-in sessions. For each session, the IP address and browser or app details (user agent). Why: to keep you signed in and protect your account. Basis: our contract with you and our legitimate interest in security.

Linked Writer Studio installations. When you connect Writer Studio to your account: a device identifier (machine ID), app version, operating system and its version, processor architecture, and when the app last connected. Why: to link the app to your account for publishing and Authr AI. Basis: our contract with you.

Published books. What you publish: title, pen name, chapters, cover, access settings, and the email addresses of readers you invite. A book password is stored only as a hash. Chapters and covers are kept in file storage. Why: to show your book to the readers you choose. Basis: our contract with you.

Readers of shared books. You can read a shared book without an account. We set a reader_id cookie with a random ID and record reading events: opening a page, reading progress, finishing a chapter, and ending a reading session, with the time and your country. We work out the country from your IP address with a local database; we do not store the IP address for this. If an author invited you by email, we store that email address. If you leave reactions or comments, we store them. Why: to give you access to the book and to show its author reading statistics and your feedback. Basis: our legitimate interest, and the author's, in running beta reading.

Support requests. Bug reports, questions, and feature requests you send us: subject, description, technical details the app attaches, your contact email if you give one, and a link to your account or installation if you are signed in. We may get an email notice about new requests, and we keep our replies. Why: to answer you and fix problems. Basis: our contract with you, or our legitimate interest in answering requests.

Authr AI. See Authr AI below.

Visit statistics without cookies. On the same public pages, Cloudflare Web Analytics counts visits for everyone. It sets no cookies, stores nothing in your browser, and does not identify you across sites. It collects the page address, the referring page, browser and device details, the country, and page load times. Why: to know how many people visit the site. Basis: our legitimate interest in understanding how the site is used.

Website analytics and advertising measurement. Google (Google Analytics, Google Ads) and Yandex (Yandex Metrica) set cookies to measure visits and the results of our advertising, but only if you accept analytics cookies. They run on public pages, such as the home, download, features, docs, and blog pages and this policy, and not on sign-in, account, or book reading pages. They collect the pages you visit, clicks (including on download links), browser and device details, approximate location, and cookie identifiers. If you accept analytics cookies, Google and Yandex may collect information about your activity on our site and across other sites over time. Why: to understand how the site is used and to measure the results of our advertising. Basis: your consent.

Error reports. When something fails on the site or in our API, an error tracking service receives technical details: the error, the page or request, browser and device details, and the time. It also receives performance data for server requests. Why: to find and fix problems. Basis: our legitimate interest in a working service.

Emails. We send account emails (address confirmation, password reset) and notices about replies to your support requests. When you write to [email protected], your email goes through an email provider and is forwarded to a private chat in a messaging app, where we read it. Our servers keep only its message ID and delivery time. Why: to communicate with you. Basis: our contract with you, or our legitimate interest in answering messages.

Server logs. Our servers keep technical logs of requests. They include IP addresses and, for some account and invitation events, email addresses. Why: to keep the service secure and working. Basis: our legitimate interest.

Authr AI

Authr AI is the AI we provide inside Writer Studio. When you use it, the text you send, such as manuscript passages and your instructions, passes through our Authr AI service to the AI model vendor that serves the request. The answer comes back the same way.

The vendor that serves Authr AI today is DeepSeek. DeepSeek processes the requests under the DeepSeek Open Platform Terms of Service.

We do not store the text of your requests or the answers. For each request we keep a usage record: your account, the linked installation, the model, token counts, cost, a request ID, and the time. Why: to count usage against your plan's Authr AI allowance. Basis: our contract with you.

Before Authr AI starts using a different vendor, we update this section and the effective date of this policy.

Who receives data

We share data with services that help us run the platform:

  • hosting and storage providers, which run our servers, database, and file storage and carry traffic to the site;
  • an error tracking service;
  • Cloudflare (Cloudflare Web Analytics), to count visits without cookies;
  • email and messaging services, which send our emails and deliver the emails you send us;
  • Google (Google Analytics, Google Ads) and Yandex (Yandex Metrica), if you accept analytics cookies, to measure visits and the results of our advertising;
  • the AI model vendor that serves Authr AI (see above).

The author of a shared book sees its reading statistics and the reactions and comments readers leave. We may also disclose data when the law requires it. We do not sell personal data.

Some of these services are in other countries whose laws may protect data less than the laws of your country, including the United States, Russia, and, for Authr AI, China. Your text reaches DeepSeek only when you choose to use Authr AI.

How long we keep data

  • Your account data, linked installations, and published books: while your account exists, unless you delete them earlier.
  • Support requests: kept after your account is deleted, without the link to your account. We delete them when you ask.
  • When an author revokes a published book, we delete its chapters, cover, reading events, reader sessions, and invitations. Reader reactions and comments stay available to the author.
  • Authr AI usage records: while your account exists. When an account is deleted, its usage records lose the link to it; only the anonymous model, token count, cost, request ID, and time remain.
  • Cookies: the lifetimes listed below.
  • In all other cases, we keep data only as long as we need it for the purposes above. We delete your data when you ask, unless the law requires us to keep it.

Cookies and browser storage

Essential cookies, needed for the site to work:

  • lang remembers your site language. 1 year.
  • refresh_token keeps you signed in. 30 days.
  • session_token gives access to a book protected by a password or an invitation. Up to 90 days.
  • reader_id holds your random reader ID for shared books. 1 year.

Analytics cookies are set only if you accept them: Google (Google Analytics, Google Ads) and Yandex (Yandex Metrica) set them to measure visits and the results of our advertising. You can change your choice at any time with "Cookie settings" at the bottom of the site's public pages.

The site also keeps some data in your browser's storage:

  • your theme preference, including sepia mode on the book reading page;
  • your cookie choice;
  • on the book reading page: your reading position, feedback mode, and a reading-session ID that is cleared when you close the tab;
  • a timestamp that prevents repeated page reloads after a site update.

The reading-session ID is sent only to us, together with reading events. The rest stays in your browser. None of this is sent to third parties. If you accept analytics cookies, Google and Yandex may also store their own data in your browser.

Do Not Track

The site does not respond to browser Do Not Track signals. To refuse cookie-based analytics, use "Cookie settings".

Children

You must be at least 16 to use authr.app. If you believe a child under 16 has given us personal data, email us and we will delete it.

Your rights

You can ask us to:

  • give you access to your personal data;
  • correct it;
  • delete it, including your account;
  • restrict how we process it;
  • give you your data in a portable format (data portability);
  • stop processing it where we rely on our legitimate interest (objection).

You can withdraw your consent to analytics at any time with "Cookie settings". To use any right, email [email protected]. We may ask you to confirm that the data is yours. You can also complain to the data protection authority in your country.

We publish each new version on this page with a new effective date.
