Writer Studio for Linux

64-bit (x86_64)

Writer Studio is a desktop app

It runs on Windows, macOS, and Linux; there is no mobile version. Send yourself the link and open it on your computer.

Writer Studio is in alpha: expect unfinished features and occasional incompatibilities between releases. Keep a current backup of important projects.

AppImage

A portable, self-contained package that runs on most Linux distributions without installation. No root access required. On Arch-based systems (Arch Linux, CachyOS, Manjaro), the native Arch package is recommended because the AppImage's bundled WebKit can fail.

Usage

  1. Download the .AppImage file
  2. Make it executable: chmod +x Writer-Studio-*.AppImage
  3. Run it: ./Writer-Studio-*.AppImage

You can place the AppImage in any directory, e.g. ~/Applications/. To integrate with your desktop environment, use AppImageLauncher.

Debian / Ubuntu

For Debian-based distributions (Ubuntu, Linux Mint, Pop!_OS, etc.). Installs system-wide with a desktop entry.

Installation

  1. Download the .deb package
  2. Install: sudo dpkg -i Writer-Studio-*.deb
  3. Fix dependencies if needed: sudo apt install -f
  4. Launch from your application menu

Arch Linux / CachyOS / Manjaro

For Arch Linux and derivatives such as CachyOS and Manjaro. Uses your system's WebKitGTK and adds Writer Studio to your application menu.

Installation

  1. Download the .pkg.tar.zst package
  2. Install: sudo pacman -U Writer-Studio-linux-amd64.pkg.tar.zst. pacman also installs gtk4 and webkitgtk-6.0.
  3. Launch from your application menu

Dependencies

Writer Studio uses WebKitGTK for its interface. These libraries are required:

The .deb and Arch packages declare these libraries as dependencies, so apt and pacman install the corresponding packages automatically. For the AppImage, install them manually if not already present.

System Requirements

  • 64-bit Linux distribution (x86_64)
  • GTK 4 and WebKitGTK 6.0
  • glibc 2.31 or later (Ubuntu 22.04+, Fedora 38+)
  • ~200 MB disk space

Uninstall

AppImage

  1. Delete the .AppImage file

Debian package

  1. sudo apt remove writer-studio

Arch package

  1. sudo pacman -R writer-studio

Project files remain in their original locations — they are standard files you can read without this software.

SHA-256 checksums are available on the releases page.
